Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Q: How long do we have to prepare the food?
A: Finalists are given a 1 hour period the night before the event.  During that hour, finalists can: clean and trim vegetables and organize your goods. Finalists cannot cut or prep your vegetables during that time. You are given 75 minutes the day of the event.

Q: Can we bring our own equipment?
A: Yes, please refer to the Contest Rules.

Q: Can we select any protein that we want?
A: Yes, as long as it meets the cost and nutritional criteria and is something you could feasibly serve in your operation.

Q: When exactly do we need to be at the meeting?
A: The orientation meeting is typically the evening before the competition then we take you to the kitchen to do your mis en place for your carts. It is possible that could the morning of the competition but that would depend on the conference schedule.

Q: Is there only 1 winner or can multiple teams get a gold medal?
A: 1 Medal each is awarded for Bronze, Silver and Gold. There is an additional prize for Gold that has been a knife set in years past, but yet TBD for this year.
