What participants fondly describe as our quarterly “group therapy,” the AHF Member Power hour brings members together in an informal, supportive forum. These sessions give members a space to share challenges, swap strategies, and learn from each other’s experiences.
Our most recent Power Hour was focused on staying survey-ready, emphasizing that preparedness isn’t about perfection, it’s about awareness, staff competency, and fostering a culture of safety.
Here’s are a few highlights of what members discussed if you weren’t able to attend:
- It’s about staying ready, not just getting ready
Surveyors aren’t looking for perfection, they’re looking for awareness and ultimately safety. Survey readiness is ongoing and embedded in daily practice. - Divide and conquer
To make survey-related tasks more manageable, members suggested breaking work into smaller, daily checklists, spreading the work out to reduce stress and prevent it from feeling overwhelming or like a chore. - Talk about your successes
Sharing your story with surveyors matters. Highlighting what’s working, and celebrating wins, demonstrates engagement and a proactive, safety-focused culture. - Learn from past surveys
Participants shared experiences handling tricky situations and lessons learned, offering practical insights for peers facing similar challenges. - Staff competency is front and center
With staff competency now part of surveys, members discussed strategies for assessing, supporting, and documenting team skills. - Layered training works best
Effective training happens at multiple levels, starting with onboarding and reinforced through ongoing coaching and checks.
Power Hours are open to all AHF members and are a unique opportunity to share challenges, ask questions, and gain insight from peers in a supportive environment. Part pep talk, part peer support session, these calls help members tackle challenges together, and share laughs along the way. Be on the lookout for the next quarterly call. We hope you’ll join us!
